THEME: GOD IS NOT A MAN

MEMORISE: Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. (Hebrews 4:13)

MESSAGE:

One common mistake that most people including believers make is equating God to be like man. One reason why we do this is that the human brain is limited in its capacity to imagine a being that has no beginning or end, that was not created, not confined by time or space, nor bound by the laws of nature. Humans cannot fathom a being so big that He is capable of not only holding the earth but the entire universe in the palm of His hands! His awesomeness and greatness is to much for the natural human mind to comprehend. It is only those that He has graciously revealed Himself unto that can understand His greatness.

Since it is difficult to imagine such a great being due to our limitations, we tend to liken God to the image of man that we can see. This however is a dangerous approach to having a successful relationship with God. Firstly, this kind of approach will lead to a lack of godly fear. It is impossible to serve God acceptably without godly fear. It is the fear of the Lord that keeps us from sinning. Secondly, this will also lead to us rationalizing ungodly behaviour by saying things like 'God understands', or 'God does not expect us to do this in this day and age, He knows that times have changed'. It makes us to select portions of the Bible that we believe applies to us while we abandon the rest. Indeed, the most dangerous effect of equating God with man is that we lower His standard to that of man. We start to rank sin as we see it and not as God sees it. For example, by human standard lying is permissible while murder is not. We tend to forget that God says all liars will end up in the lake of fire along with murderers.

Brethren, it is therefore important that we do not get too familiar with God, His servant or His word and start to liken Him to man. God is omnipotent, omniscience, and omnipresent. He is the creator of heaven and earth and He can do as He pleases. Nobody can stand before Him to question His judgment or actions. We must therefore conduct ourselves with godly fear when we appear before Him and as we go about our daily activities knowing for sure that He is watching our every move.

Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

1. Dear Lord, give me the grace to obey your word in totality, in Jesus' name.
2. Every spirit of rebellion, I bind and cast you into the abyss, in Jesus' name.
3. Father, continue to uphold our Daddy and Mummy in the Lord in righteousness and holiness, humility and the fear of you, in Jesus'. name
