How Three Chosen Youths Bagged First-Class

The story of the three Hebrew youths you certainly know. But that of the three Chosen youths you certainly do not. The former is captured in the Bible but the later you would know by this post.

The three young Jews were among the best and the brightest of the kingdom of Judah, and they soon caught the attention of Babylonian officials. “Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking,
gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans” ( Daniel 1:3-4 ).

They were to be trained as administrators and assistants to serve in the Chaldean, or Babylonian, government. During their training, they were to receive a daily provision of the king’s delicacies, including his wine. After three years they were to personally serve the king (Daniel 1:5 ).

Their selection for this training program brought about their first trial: They refused to eat the food placed before them. Regardless of the exact circumstances, with Ashpenaz’s help they lived on an alternative diet for 10 days. The steward removed their assigned portion of the king’s cuisine and served them vegetables and water instead. As a result they grew healthier than those who consumed the royal delicacies. In their circumstances they began to see that their faith could triumph even in relatively minor trials.

Not only did God honor their obedience to Him and His laws, He also rewarded them with great favor in the king’s eyes. When the king interviewed them, they proved far wiser and of better understanding than all the magicians and astrologers in the realm (Daniel 1:15-17 , Daniel 1:19-20 ).

Some persons might be tempted to distance  these exploit as superhuman and some that only found existed on pages of the scriptures. To these folks, it cannot happen now because God was for them!

In The Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, we believe that God is for us too. (Romans 8:31) In fact, we are under a better covenant and have better promises. (Hebrews 8:6) If God empowered Daniel and his friends to be excellent and high in understanding, He can  do it again with us.

A cogent example is that of Ugwu Chibuike Emmanuel from the department of Statistics , Okeke Odinaka from the department of Mathematics, and Ugwu Chijioke George from the department of Electronics Engineering.  These three Chosen youths successfully bagged first-class from the  University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Like the three young Hebrews, they were able to walk their way through to the top echelon. The members of UNN-Chapter of The Lord's Chosen Campus Fellowship will need no recap to point you to and educate you more about them. They are phenomenons that trail the daily lives of the Fellowship like a psychological shadow stretching over the entire church from the sisters to the brothers. Mirroring their antecedents would take a universe of pages to exhaust. Yet for the sake of non-members, it will suffice to pencil down few explanations.

Bro. Chibuike triples as the Choirmaster, the keyboardist and the Bible-Study Coordinator. UNN Chosen brethren would tell you that he likes his Bible and nothing comes between him and his copy of a sizeable, red, unique King James version of the Bible. His knowledge of the Bible is so much so that one might think he wrote it by himself. Little wonder he is dubbed by some as a 'Bible Encyclopedia' because he gives a ready answer to practically any scriptural question asked. The brethren also know that, as a team player, respect for everybody is his soft spot, and he doesn’t particularly discriminate or neglect one's ability. He concentrate resources almost exclusively on the denigration, disparaging and discrediting of sin and anyone who dares to introduce carnality or 'strange fire' into the Fellowship.

Much as his Spiritual Scorecard seems enviable, his academics is not compromised. He was the best student in his class and he also manifested that excellence in the national level. In his four hundred level, he represented his university in the 2018 edition of the annual Statistics Competition for tertiary institutions in Nigeria organized by the Nigerian Statistical Association in collaboration with National Mathematical Centre, at Kwali, FCT, Abuja. Over 40 universities participated in the contest and, to the glory of God, he emerged the overall winner in the undergraduates category.

With the mention of Bro. Chibuike, what readily comes to mind is happiness and cheerfulness. It is so much so that our Campus co-ordinator once asked, "if he does not have any problem in this world." A product of Divine artistry and unmistakable architecture, a quintessence of good morals and manifold grace and favour, he happens to be tallest person in the entire Fellowship. Unlike some folks who would become pushy, vituperative, and pedantic owing to their excellent voice and dexterity in playing the piano, his ability to systematically rise to the office of a choirmaster is a testament to his level of  commitment.

What about Bro Odinaka? He is one of a kind: one whose godly character and dressing propped his classmate to refer to him as “Pastor”. Amid some tints of intimidation, malignity and segregation that attend his christian life in UNN, he held his sanctification strongly and preserved it from being stained by campus modernity. He has always been performing very well but his attainment didn’t overwhelm his walk with God. He is not lacking in integrity, brotherhood and also served as an engine room for the UNN Fellowship were he was the Leader of the Intercessory Department. His naïve and unsophisticated disposition is so telling that one might be tempted to erroneously disparage him as one of those dullards on campus. But that was the extent of his humility. As his nature is, he is wary of carelessness and lopsidedness. If there is anybody that taunt, the probability of the onus falling on 'Prayoo' (the name he is often referred as by the brethren due to his prayerfulness) in tending to zero. His relationship with students is one that impacts and inspires.

Bro. George is the next. He is the socio-academic safety net of the Fellowship. Putting it mildly, he was the Academic Coordinator. In this capacity, he ensured that the brethren are taken on toll-free  extra lessons/ tutorials. His concern for the  semester results of the brethren was motherly. He believes sternly that as a Believer, one's  results should be such that would stand out, emphasizing that one's  preaching work might not yield much a fruit if fellow students does not see the evidence in our result.

He believes that academic excellence and spiritual excellence are not mutually exclusive. For him, spiritual excellence calls us to be good stewards of the gifts and talents God has provided; therefore, it calls one to academic excellence as well. When students volunteer in church, excel in school and have great relationships with their families at the same time, these three aspects form a stable tripod that allows them to reach their full potential in life. This truth is well understood by him and he tried to instil it on the brethren.

Though a student, his money-making acumen outweighs that of many adults. From periods of teaching in a High School, he went into floating an extra-mural class called Toppers Academy which he operated side-by-side the one he does for the Chosen brethren free of charge. He equally operates a stationery shop which is tactfully located at a flash point. All these he did in combination with studies!

He was not overwhelmed by the poor state of his family. While others in his background excelled in cultism, thievery, nudity as an escape route for economic difficulties, he worked himself into comfort while still maintaining a clean bill of health, and to the adorableness of the hearts and minds of discerning observers.

Only God can do this!
