TEXT: Joshua 1: 1-9
THEME: FEAR NOT

MEMORISE: “Ye shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you” Deuteronomy 3:22
MESSAGE:

In our passage today we witnessed the mantle of leadership being passed from Moses to Joshua. Joshua must have felt overwhelmed with the task ahead. The task must have seemed daunting and impossible. How would he measure up to such a great leader like Moses who God communed with one on one? God’s message to Joshua was one of encouragement and reassurance. He told him to be strong and have courage. God promised to back him up as long as he totally trusted and obeyed Him. Moses was great because he relied on God. It was not Moses that worked all the mighty miracles but God and the same God was willing to use Joshua if Joshua would also trust and obey.

With God all things are possible and we need not fear the battles that are raging or those that might come our way in the future. The Bible is full of examples of God telling us to fear not but to trust in His saving grace. In fact throughout the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments we are constantly reminded to fear not because our God is greater than any problem or situation we might find ourselves in. He is in full control at all times and there is nothing He cannot do.

Why does God continually tell us not to fear? Firstly, faith cannot work in the presence of fear. The two are incompatible. As Christians we must always exercise faith and not fear. Indeed anytime you are afraid, you are no longer exercising faith. The Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Secondly, fear also points to a lack of trust in God. It means we do not trust Him to be faithful to His word and promise. This attitude is also displeasing to God. Finally fear makes us take our eyes off God’s greatness and ability to do all things even that which seems impossible to us. In other words, fear makes us doubt God’s power to save.

What then is that ugly situation in your life that is causing you to fear? God is telling you today ‘fear not! Rather, fix your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. He will see you through.

Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

1. O Lord, give me the grace to always rely on you at all times.
2. Everything causing fear and doubt in my life be silenced in Jesus' name.
3. I bind every spirit of timidity and loose the spirit of boldness in Jesus' name
4. Dear Lord, grant my G. O. and Mummy in the Lord the boldness to preach your word all over the world
