The CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL...

DATE: Monday May 9th, 2016.

TEXT: 2 Chronicles 23:1-25

THEME: THROW DOWN THE ALTAR OF BAAL

MEMORY VERSE: "25 And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young Bullock of seven years old, and throw down the Grove that is by it: 26 And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down." (Judges 6:25-26)

MESSAGE:
One of the things that militated against the children of Israelites during the time of Gideon was idol worship. This ensured that their enemies especially the Midianites lorded it over them. Even their children who did not know the genesis of the problem were badly affected and they asked, "Where are the miracles that our fathers told us about?" Like Gideon, are you asking the same question today? You must be free from idolatry. Idolatry does not stop at owning shrines. Whatever evil habit you cannot do away with has become an idol to you.

The angel told Gideon to throw down his father's altar. So, you must throw down not just your father's altar, but all those evil habits that constitute altar in your life. This time around, there are no bullocks required. The blood of Jesus Christ is all that is required. So, throw down the altar by renouncing the evil habits and confessing your sins before God and then raise a fresh altar (Accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour).

Sing a few praise/worship songs. Pray and thank God and then ask for forgiveness of sins and take the following prayer points.
Prayer Points:
1. Every idol of my father's house, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I throw you down, in Jesus' name.

2. Every idol of evil habit (Name the habit) in my life; be thrown into fire by the Holy Ghost, in Jesus' name.
